MARPOWER to participate in European Hydrogen Week

The project will highlight its development of fuel-flexible gas turbine technologies for shipboard power generation, designed to operate with renewable hydrogen and other sustainable fuels, supporting more efficient and sustainable maritime transport.
MARPOWER to participate in European Hydrogen Week

MARPOWER will be featured at European Hydrogen Week 2026, taking place in Brussels from 26 to 30 October, through consortium partner Zabala Innovation. The event will provide an opportunity to present the project’s approach to using hydrogen and other sustainable fuels for more efficient power generation on board ships, contributing to the decarbonisation of maritime transport.

Combining an international exhibition with a comprehensive conference programme, European Hydrogen Week is a major meeting point for the hydrogen sector. Co-organised by the European Commission, Hydrogen Europe and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, with the involvement of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the 2026 edition is expected to attract more than 8,000 attendees and over 200 speakers, with discussions covering hydrogen technologies, policies, market developments and opportunities across the value chain.

Fuel flexibility for more sustainable maritime transport

MARPOWER will showcase its approach to developing a gas turbine-based energy conversion system designed to operate on 100% hydrogen. However, the project’s ambition goes beyond hydrogen alone, with fuel flexibility being one of its main technological objectives. The system is also being developed to accommodate other sustainable fuels, including ammonia, green methane and green methanol.

This flexibility is particularly relevant for the maritime sector, where the availability and supporting infrastructure for alternative fuels may vary across different routes and ports. By combining fuel flexibility with technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency, MARPOWER seeks to support more sustainable shipboard power generation and facilitate the transition towards alternative maritime fuels.

The event will also provide an opportunity to engage with stakeholders from the hydrogen and maritime sectors, share the project’s technological approach and explore potential synergies with other initiatives working towards cleaner energy solutions.

Four European projects showcasing hydrogen innovation

MARPOWER will be presented at stand H40 alongside three other European projects through their common partner Zabala Innovation: DESIREE, developing advanced solid oxide electrolysis technologies for more efficient and reliable renewable hydrogen production; ALRIGH2T, advancing liquid hydrogen refuelling technologies for aviation; and ACHIEVE, investigating stable, low-emission combustion of hydrogen-based fuel blends in gas turbines.

Together, these four initiatives illustrate different approaches to advancing hydrogen technologies, from production and refuelling to their use in energy conversion systems. They also reflect Zabala Innovation’s broader experience in the hydrogen sector, encompassing funding consultancy, innovation management and participation in European research and innovation projects.

The European Hydrogen Week programme includes a B2B Forum, an Innovation Forum, an exhibition and networking activities, as well as the High-Level Policy Conference, bringing together policymakers and industry representatives to discuss the future of hydrogen.
