The Team

The MARPOWER consortium is a collaborative effort designed to leverage the expertise of various stakeholders in the maritime transport value chain. Comprising 11 entities from six European countries (Finland, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain), the partnership is established based on principles of excellence, commitment, and the capacity to achieve project objectives.

LUT University is a public science institution that integrates the fields of business, technology, and social sciences. Founded in 1863, the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano, or Polimi) is the largest technical university in Italy, with around 40,000 students. Founded in 1829, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) aims to create value for society through education, scientific advice, and innovation grounded in world-class research. As a leading international technical university, DTU excels in the technical and natural sciences, with a focus on demanding engineering disciplines such as sustainable energy technology and life sciences. The University of Vigo (Universidade de Vigo) is a public university in Spain, founded in 1990, that operates with academic, economic, and governmental autonomy to serve society based on principles of equality, solidarity, democracy, and freedom. Since its inception, the university has experienced consistent growth and aims for excellence in education and research. It prioritizes high-quality teaching, the pursuit of new knowledge, and the transfer of that knowledge to society, as well as fostering artistic creation and scientific and technological development.

Founded in 2013, Aurelia Turbines is the first company globally to implement the IRG2 process in its gas turbines. IRG2 stands for “intercooled and recuperated, generator on both shafts”, allowing for high electrical efficiency. This innovative technology, developed at LUT University, is backed by over 30 years of research and development in high-speed technology and fluid dynamics. Aurelia Turbines holds extensive intellectual property rights related to this core technology and continues to build a portfolio of IP protections.

Alfa Laval Aalborg Oy is the Finnish subsidiary of the global Alfa Laval group. The company designs and supplies waste heat recovery boiler systems and fired boilers for cruise ships and ferries, power plants, the process industry, and offshore applications worldwide. Innovative solutions improve customers’ energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and save fuel costs globally. The company has extensive know-how and decades of experience, with thousands of waste heat recovery boilers supplied all over the world.

RINA Consulting is a subsidiary of the global company RINA. It provides a wide range of engineering consultancy services covering the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility and specialized technical studies to conceptual and detailed design, prototyping and testing, project management, site engineering, and operation and maintenance management.

RINA Services is the RINA operating company offering a broad range of services such as testing, certification, quality control, expediting, and third-party inspection. Ship classification has been at the core of RINA’s business since its inception, and today, it ranks as one of the top marine classification societies in the world.

Located on the Atlantic coast, Chantiers de l’Atlantique is a global leader in complex ships and offshore installations. Organized into three business units (ships, marine energy, and services) Chantiers de l’Atlantique specializes in designing, testing, and delivering cruise and navy vessels, as well as electrical substations for offshore wind farms. The company supports civil and military shipowners throughout the lifecycle of their vessels and has pursued research and development programs to reduce the environmental footprint of its products since 2007.

Founded in 1986, Zabala Innovation is a consultancy specializing in grant funding access worldwide. With over 500 employees and offices in Spain, Belgium, France, and Portugal, the company provides expertise in Social Innovation, Stakeholder Engagement, and Research and Technological Development (RTD) Management. Zabala Innovation is dedicated to advancing social development, promoting human rights, and fostering international cooperation.
