MARPOWER project to be introduced at Vibrations in Rotating Machinery conference

The upcoming Vibrations in Rotating Machinery (VIRM) conference will feature the MARPOWER project among its highlights. Scheduled for 16–18 September 2025 at One Birdcage Walk, London, this leading international event has, since 1976, brought together experts from academia, research, and industry to advance state-of-the-art knowledge in the dynamics of rotating machinery.

MARPOWER research on stage at Vibrations in Rotating Machinery

At VIRM, junior researcher Kristóf Szombati (LUT University) will present the study: “Dynamics of a magnetically-levitated vertical rotor under touchdown bearing contacts induced by platform motions – An experimental investigation”.

The research, carried out by MARPOWER partners LUT University and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), directly connects with one of the project’s key areas of research: Active Magnetic Bearings (AMBs) for rotating machinery operating on moving platforms. This presentation provides the perfect opportunity to introduce MARPOWER’s main goal: the development of an innovative, flexible energy conversion system capable of utilizing a wide range of sustainable fuels, including green methane, green methanol, hydrogen, and ammonia, for marine applications.

Details of Mr. Szombati’s presentation:

  • Date: Thursday, 18 September 2025
  • Time: 10:10h
  • Session: Rotor Balancing, Dynamics and Smart Rotors

VIRM, organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), will provide a platform to discuss challenges such as rotordynamics, rub, and whirl instability, while also highlighting the latest technical developments. This year’s program includes over 40 peer-reviewed presentations from universities, research institutes, and companies worldwide, reflecting the truly global nature of the conference.
